SDS and SSH Collaboration Makes Secure File Transfer Easy to Implement and Completely Monitored
Brooklyn Center, Minn., 3 June 2008
Software Diversified Services and SSH Communications Security Corp. announced today their collaboration on a complete, cost-effective, and easily implemented security solution for file transfer work in multi-platform environments.
Working together, the SDS FTP Manager (SFM) and SSH Tectia(TM) products will provide easy, effortless, snap-in encryption and security for FTP, and automatic, transparent FTP to SFTP conversion. The solution requires no changes to JCL, data files, or application infrastructure.
SFM will provide native support for file transfers by the SFTP and SCP protocols used by Tectia. SFM\'s robust monitoring and auditing of SFTP and SCP file transfers--the secure protocols used by the SSH Tectia Server-- will provide powerful oversight and diagnostics, and comprehensive audit trails to ensure basic compliance with key government regulations.
For transparent, automatic conversion of FTP commands and data to secure, encrypted FTP transfers through an SSH tunnel, SFM version 2.0, due for release in late-summer, will connect an IBM FTP client job on z/OS to the SSH Tectia Server.
From an intuitive GUI browser interface, users will be able to configure and control file encryption for end-to-end FTP security in transit. Programmers will no longer need to alter the JCL in every job that needs to encrypt a file transfer.
SFM further addresses FTP\'s security shortcomings by integrating the z/OS FTP server with mainframe SAF security (RACF, ACF2, or TopSecret). Administrators can selectively allow or disallow any individual user and/or FTP command. They can allow read access to a dataset while preventing its off-site transfer, for example, or allow transfer of sequential files but not JES files.
SFM\'s FTP Control Language (FCL) provides a unique tool for automating mainframe batch jobs and associated file transfers, providing for logging and retry of failed transfers, and automatic notification to operators when automated recovery fails.
Together, the SSH Tectia and SFM solutions increase the level of security for enterprises conducting batch file transfers on the mainframe by combining robust data security with advanced monitoring and management functionality.
SSH Tectia encrypts critical data and provides transparent FTP tunneling to ensure that file transfers being monitored by SFM are no longer vulnerable to inherent threats. The additional layer of security from SSH Tectia enables SFM users to meet more stringent data security standards as required by government and industry regulations, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Additional advanced features of this file transfer solution include checkpoint/restart, mid-file recovery, file-integrity checking, support for MVS and USS file systems, automatic ASCII - EBCDIC conversion, interactive MVS dataset listing, support for SITE commands, and SMF logging and auditing.
